I've been sitting here for about 10 minutes attempting to start writing this entry and then just deleting what I've written. I feel like my constant use of twitter has condensed my thought process so much that I literally can't write for more than 2 sentences anymore before I run out of steam. Fail. I'm going to try and rectify this though. The motherfucking WORLD CUP starts in less than three weeks. We leave for South Africa on the 8th of June, which is 15 days away if you're counting down like I am :p I'm kind of shitting myself with excitement haha. Hopefully we'll have access to decently priced/reliable internets over there, otherwise I will probably die. Also, I want to be able to post photos/updates etc when I'm away, because if it all has to wait until I come home, it will never happen. I'm dreading the flights - the longest flight I've ever been on was Sydney to Nouméa, which was about 3.5 hours. By comparison, we have a 7 hour flight to Kuala Lumpur, and then a 10 hour flight from KL to Johannesburg, arriving at 5am local time. Kill me now. I predict bad moods and epic jetlag. Still, I'm really not allowed to bitch about ANYTHING regarding this trip. Recently, I've ended up in several situations where I've told people I'm going to the World Cup and their response has been "I hate you", even if it's a total stranger hahah. We are so lucky that we've been able to afford this and get on board when so many people just can't do it. So far our itinerary looks like this: 8th June - depart Melbourne 9th June - arrive Jo'burg 10th June - find somewhere to watch the FIFA concert 11th June - Street Party arranged by tour group 12th June - Argentina v Nigeria @ Ellis Park, Jo'burg 13th June - Australia v Germany @ Moses Mabhida Stadium, Durban 15th June - Brazil v N. Korea @ Ellis Park 16th June - Pilanesburg National Park tour 18th June - Soweto tour 19th June - Australia v Ghana @ Royal Bafokeng Stadium, Rustenburg 20th June - Elephant Sanctuary tour (OMGGGGGGGG ELEPHANTS!) 21st June - Spain v Honduras @ Ellis Park (OMGGGGGGGGGG ESPAÑA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) 23rd June - Australia v Serbia @ Mbombela Stadium, Nelspruit 24th June - Italy v Slovakia @ Ellis Park 25th June - Apartheid Museum tour 26th/27th/28th or 29th June - Round of 16 match (who we see depends on Group stage results) 28th June - Farewell party 1st July - depart Jo'burg 2nd July - arrive MelbourneSo yeah. Good times :D Other than that, not a lot has been happening really. Or more to the point, nothing I feel like writing about right now. So here are a couple of pretentious Hipstamatic photos.

I am moving in 10 days! I can't remember what my last update was on this topic, but basically someone ended up buying our apartment with a moving in date of early April. We decided to act sooner rather than later in terms of finding somewhere new and went apartment-hunting in earnest on Saturday. Found the most amazing place on High Street in Northcote, which was a little bit over our budget, but it's so awesome (IT HAS AN AIR CONDITIONER. IT'S ON THE 86 TRAM ROUTE.) we decided to put in an application first thing on Monday anyway. By Monday lunchtime it had been approved, and we signed the lease on Tuesday haha. I think some things are just meant to be. So it's all nutso at the moment, given that we are moving on the 15th of Feb and I am yet to pack a single thing (how the fuck do I pack my 8 gazillion CDs and DVDs ANYWAY???). I have SO MUCH to throw away, and a lot of clothes that I can sell/give away, i.e. all the things in my wardrobe that I've been keeping just in case I magically shrink back to my 2004 size which, let's face it, is never going to happen. Woe. There is so much to do and organise, which combined with the uncertainty due to the restructure at work, and having to spend so much time thinking about money lately, has left me feeling a bit frazzled. Nevertheless, I'm sure I'll make it through relatively unscathed, and in the meantime, there is so much loveliness around me - making new friends, reconnecting with old ones, some awesome gigs coming up, fun sporting times (A-League finals, ACL, AFL starting back up in a couple of weeks) - life is really pretty swell. Except for Fall Out Boy breaking up. But that's a whole other story that I'm not going to get into at 20 past 12 on a weeknight. I'm rambling, I know - I should really go to bed... Monday last week: the hottest night in over 100 years; the equal-hottest night on record; the worst night's sleep of my life Monday this week: pissing down with rain; sleeping in a tracksuit with the electric blanket on. Oh Melbourne... In other news, I have given over my life for the next two weeks to the Australian Open. Basically, everything else has been shoved to the background, so hopefully there's nothing else important going on right now that I need to be caring about. I'd heard about Hit For Haiti on Saturday night, when I was out in the middle of the bay on a boat. Internet was almost non-existent, but rehellinen kindly provided all the details I needed on twitter. I then proceeded to get excessively drunk and got home at quarter past two, having completely forgotten about my plan to get up early and go to the tennis. Woke up in a right mess on Sunday morning and didn't even think I'd be able to get out of bed, let alone out of the house and over to Melbourne Park. After a couple of hours of lying around feeling sorry for myself though, I found a tiny bit of energy, seized it, and managed to get ready and get out of the house without dying or vomiting. I was pretty proud of myself, ngl. Walked over to Rod Laver Arena along the river and was completely shocked by the number of people out and about actually doing stuff on a Sunday. I was almost offended! Shouldn't they be lumping around and not showering, as I do every Sunday? Anyway, got there shortly after midday, bought tickets for myself and shakalak and got in the line, which quickly turned epic (they ended up with a full house of 15,000 people). At 1, they started to let everyone in, and despite the pleas from the Melbourne Park staff not to run or push, it quickly turned into a scene reminiscent of Myer on Boxing Day. Despite that, I managed to score some great seats in row G of one of the corners, and proceeded to take approximately one million photos, many of which are behind the cut because I can't make decisions when it comes to narrowing stuff down.
