I am moving in 10 days! I can't remember what my last update was on this topic, but basically someone ended up buying our apartment with a moving in date of early April. We decided to act sooner rather than later in terms of finding somewhere new and went apartment-hunting in earnest on Saturday. Found the most amazing place on High Street in Northcote, which was a little bit over our budget, but it's so awesome (IT HAS AN AIR CONDITIONER. IT'S ON THE 86 TRAM ROUTE.) we decided to put in an application first thing on Monday anyway. By Monday lunchtime it had been approved, and we signed the lease on Tuesday haha. I think some things are just meant to be. So it's all nutso at the moment, given that we are moving on the 15th of Feb and I am yet to pack a single thing (how the fuck do I pack my 8 gazillion CDs and DVDs ANYWAY???). I have SO MUCH to throw away, and a lot of clothes that I can sell/give away, i.e. all the things in my wardrobe that I've been keeping just in case I magically shrink back to my 2004 size which, let's face it, is never going to happen. Woe. There is so much to do and organise, which combined with the uncertainty due to the restructure at work, and having to spend so much time thinking about money lately, has left me feeling a bit frazzled. Nevertheless, I'm sure I'll make it through relatively unscathed, and in the meantime, there is so much loveliness around me - making new friends, reconnecting with old ones, some awesome gigs coming up, fun sporting times (A-League finals, ACL, AFL starting back up in a couple of weeks) - life is really pretty swell. Except for Fall Out Boy breaking up. But that's a whole other story that I'm not going to get into at 20 past 12 on a weeknight. I'm rambling, I know - I should really go to bed... Monday last week: the hottest night in over 100 years; the equal-hottest night on record; the worst night's sleep of my life Monday this week: pissing down with rain; sleeping in a tracksuit with the electric blanket on. Oh Melbourne... In other news, I have given over my life for the next two weeks to the Australian Open. Basically, everything else has been shoved to the background, so hopefully there's nothing else important going on right now that I need to be caring about. I'd heard about Hit For Haiti on Saturday night, when I was out in the middle of the bay on a boat. Internet was almost non-existent, but rehellinen kindly provided all the details I needed on twitter. I then proceeded to get excessively drunk and got home at quarter past two, having completely forgotten about my plan to get up early and go to the tennis. Woke up in a right mess on Sunday morning and didn't even think I'd be able to get out of bed, let alone out of the house and over to Melbourne Park. After a couple of hours of lying around feeling sorry for myself though, I found a tiny bit of energy, seized it, and managed to get ready and get out of the house without dying or vomiting. I was pretty proud of myself, ngl. Walked over to Rod Laver Arena along the river and was completely shocked by the number of people out and about actually doing stuff on a Sunday. I was almost offended! Shouldn't they be lumping around and not showering, as I do every Sunday? Anyway, got there shortly after midday, bought tickets for myself and shakalak and got in the line, which quickly turned epic (they ended up with a full house of 15,000 people). At 1, they started to let everyone in, and despite the pleas from the Melbourne Park staff not to run or push, it quickly turned into a scene reminiscent of Myer on Boxing Day. Despite that, I managed to score some great seats in row G of one of the corners, and proceeded to take approximately one million photos, many of which are behind the cut because I can't make decisions when it comes to narrowing stuff down.

Last night was the equal hottest night on record in Melbourne. When I got home just before 7pm it was hovering around 41°C (106°F) and by 11:30 when I attempted to get to sleep, it had only dropped to 36°C (97°F). I don't have air conditioning at home, so my little apartment was like a sauna. I struggled to get to sleep, and had FINALLY dozed off when I was woken up just before 2am by a really loud engine sound. In my haze, I thought it was the garbage truck, but when I realised that it was actually the middle of the night and not 7am on Thursday morning, I got up to take a look. Turns out, it was a fire engine. I wandered downstairs and out onto the balcony to see what was going on - there was a large box-shaped appliance on the footpath being hosed down by a bunch of firemen with great arms. I stood there gawking, and was soon joined by Mum, who had also been woken up and come to see what was happening. We smoked a cigarette and watched in vague interest, before they packed up and drove away, leaving whatever had been on fire out the front of our row of apartments. I managed to eventually get back to sleep and tossed and turned until 6, when I got up, got ready super-quick, and got the heck out of my house. Everything was warm - my towel, my clothes in my wardrobe, the shampoo and conditioner in the shower, my makeup... It was ridiculous! On the way out I stopped to check out the mystery appliance - it was a dishwasher! I opened the door a little bit and it was burnt out inside. I assume the neighbours discovered it was on fire (god only knows how a dishwasher catches fire), called the fire brigade, who somehow brought it downstairs from their kitchen, presumably after mostly extinguishing the fire, and then fully put it out with the hoses from the truck. Definitely a strange nocturnal experience hahah. Right now though, the lack of decent sleep is really catching up with me. I don't have a great deal of work to do, so I'm sitting here attempting to keep occupied so I don't fall asleep at my desk. And there's still 2 hours to go until I can go home. FAAAAAAAAAAAIL. I guess I'll just go see what people are posting on tumblr. It's my latest internet time-waster! If you're so inclined, you can follow me. Feeling: tired

How was everyone's Christmas break? Mine has kind of disappeared, and I am back to work tomorrow. At least it's only for a couple of days and then we get a long weekend for New Year's, but still, everyone is on holidays this week so I'm kind of resentful at having to get up and actually leave the house and do stuff tomorrow :/ Christmas lunch on Friday was lovely - we had decided to go out this year, as no one could be bothered cooking, so we ended up at the restaurant at Rydges Carlton and it was fantastic! The only downside of eating out was that there were no leftovers in the fridge for when I was craving them at 6pm that night, or 2am the next day or for lunch the day after that hahah. Saturday was spent braving the Boxing Day sales in the city, something I won't be repeating in a hurry. I did manage to get my usual Estee Lauder mascara bargain giftset though (mascara, eyelash primer and eye makeup remover for the same price the mascara is normally), plus some amazing shoes to go with my dress for l_o_u's wedding. Excitement! They are the tallest shoes I've ever owned. I've been wearing them around the house most of the weekend, (pairing them with things like pyjama pants and socks and horrible plaid shorts today heheh), and it's such a novelty not having to reach up for things as much as I usually have to! I also went and saw Sherlock Holmes on Saturday afternoon. If you haven't seen it yet, GO AND SEE IT. I mean, that is, only if you like movies with attractive guys and girls being awesome and entertaining you for 2 hours. If that's not really your thing, I guess you could go and see...I don't know, something else :p Anyway, I won't go on about it for the next hour, but it was great, and I give it four thumbs up. It also made me rediscover my love for Jude Law, which has been quite enjoyable. I went right back to my 15 year old self watching the Talented Mr Ripley and just being like :O for the entire film. Well, until Matt Damon kills him, but you get the point. I had kind of forgotten how ridiculously good looking he is, even with his hair receding nowadays and all the unsavoury personal life crap. I really don't care, obviously. Yesterday I woke up to watch Liverpool beat Wolves (!) and then went back to sleep at 7 for a few hours. Lumped around the house, then went over to Andrew's to watch Sydney beat Adelaide and Victory lose to cellar-dwellers North Queensland. A-League fail. We did have some great pizza though, so it wasn't a total waste of a night :p And today I sat in bed until 1pm arsing around on the internet. Realised I wanted to actually achieve something with my day, so I went down to the shop and bought ingredients to make brownies, which I did whilst watching some of the cricket. The brownies were delicious. I wonder when my post-Christmas diet is going to take effect hahahahahah oh I crack myself up. Aaaaand I've run out of things to say. Fortunately, that coincides with me being up to date and also being ready to go to sleep, so, adios lovelies! Feeling: relaxed Listening to: Phoenix - Armistice | Powered by Last.fm
